EarthTeam Restoration Days

By Nicole Cogar

On November 3 I went to the EarthTeam restoration day at Strentzel Meadow in Martinez. I had never heard of this meadow and I had no idea what to expect at EarthTeam meetings. I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. Strentzel Meadow is a beautiful area filled with a big selection of local species of plants. And the meeting was really fun. The morning was filled with different projects for everyone to do. And it was a great way to socialize with other environmentally conscience teens from the Bay Area.
Then on November 17 I went to another EarthTeam meeting at Dow Wetlands in Pittsburg. The wetlands are a very pretty location as well, filled with a wide variety of local species of plants and animals. And there were a lot of different projects for groups to work on, including spreading manure, cleaning flower pots, and gathering supplies. And at the end of the meeting everyone worked on making sun shades out of the local tules and cat tails.
I would definitely recommend going to EarthTeam meetings to anyone who wants to socialize, help the environment, and enjoy mother nature all in one day.
