Tala
Beigi
Hello, My Fellow Environmentalists.
My name is Tala Beigi, a 17-year old,
Iranian-American freshman at Diablo Valley
College (DVC) in Pleasant Hill. Even though
this is my very first year as part of
the Green News Editorial Board, I feel
I am capable of bringing fresh, new ideas
to this newsletter with my passion for
helping the environment as a primary drive!
I am taking a total of 16 credits this
year at DVC, yet have been able to juggle
some extracurricular activities on the
side as well such as volunteering at the
Contra Costa Health Center in Martinez
and helping with the construction of the
Pleasant Hill Haunted House during the
month of October. I am also the secretary
of the Social Service Club at my college
which plans community service events for
members to partake in each month. All
of these volunteer experiences have become
vital in making me a dedicated, hard-working
person with a lot of love for my community.
At my high school, I was the president
of the Environmental Club for my senior
year during which we made some major accomplishments
such as stopping the use of Styrofoam
in the cafeteria, introducing a Compost
Program, helping with our school’s
Green Week, and volunteering to work a
booth at the 1st Lafayette Earth Day Festival.
With these achievements in mind, I was
honored with the 2007 Environmental Award
of Excellence from the City of Lafayette.
With all this in mind, I have decided
to dedicate myself to the Green News Editorial
Board, so I may be able to help get the
word out about what needs to be done to
make sure our future generations don’t
live in a world too harsh for them to
survive in.
When I’m not saving the environment,
I like to do normal, teenage activities
such as going to the movies with friends,
dancing, drawing or reading, playing Ultimate
Frisbee, and the list goes on. I love
spending time with my family the most
which consists of my younger sister, parents,
and German Shepherd-Chow-Labrador mix
of a dog. My family is very supportive
of my newly-acquired, environmentally-friendly
lifestyle of biking to school, buying
fruits and vegetables from locally-grown
farmer’s markets, and not wasting
as much energy as we used to.
All in all, I appreciate Green News for
allowing me the opportunity to be apart
of their online newsletter in hopes of
spreading the word about helping our environment
as we move closer each day towards a better,
healthier Earth.
