Nicole
Cogar
Hi, I'm Nicole Cogar. I'm an 18-year-old freshman at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill.
I got involved with EarthTeam in 2007 when I heard about their Restoration Initiative projects. At one of their restoration days I heard about the Green News. I love to write, so I immediately got involved. After I had been working with the Green News for about a year, I joined its Editorial Board, which was a lot of fun. I've been able to meet lots of new people, learn new techniques for writing and helping the environment, and also make amazing new friends.
At about the same time I joined the Green News Editorial Board, Lana from the Green Screen contacted me and asked me to join their TV show. I was excited about the idea of working on a TV show focused on teens and the environment, so I jumped at the opportunity -and I'm so glad I did. Green Screen has taken me on so many adventures to new places, to meet new people, and make awesome new friends.
I hope to continue to work with EarthTeam while balancing college and work; it will be totally worth it!
When I'm not with EarthTeam, I love to just hang out with my friends, listen to music, watch movies, read a good book, and just have a good time :)

| The
Green
The Green is a monthly online environmental
newspaper written by and for teens. The Green
provides a place where youth can voice their
thoughts, ideas, and beliefs about the environment
and have them seen by other youth and adults
in the Bay Area and across the nation.
What We’re Looking
For
The Green welcomes all types of writing and
artwork. Poetry, creative writing, editorials,
book reviews, rants & raves, photos, drawings,
comic strips, anything environmentally-related
that you’d like to share. You don’t
need to be an expert, you just need to be willing
to share your knowledge and opinions.
Getting Started
You can get started by browsing through the
current issue of The Green by using the links
on this page. Then, if you feel ready, dive
right in and start submitting your own work!!
The Green News Team
You can receive a small monetary reward at the
end of the year by becoming part of The Green
Team and agreeing to submit on a monthly or
bi-monthly basis. Or, if you would rather just
submit something every once-in-a-while, we welcome
that as well. Either way, click on the Contact
Us link to get in contact with us.
For Teachers
Teachers, take a look at the For Teachers link
for ideas on how to incorporate The Green into
your lesson plans. Use The Green to energize
a writing or photography assignment, encourage
students to publish their work, expose students
to other youth writings, and to incorporate
technology into your curriculum.
