Max Perrey
I was born in Mill Valley, California and have been inspired by the immense beauty of Marin's natural environment. For the past five years I have been involved in efforts to preserve and protect our natural environment. In the 7th grade, I wrote a proposal to install solar tube technology in our classroom,it inspired me to lead a class business selling reusable bags made from recycled materials and giving the proceeds to an environmental organization. I graduated from 8th at the Marin Waldorf School and currently attend Tam High as an 11th grader. While in high school, I was a leader in trying to stop the bulldozing of southern Marin County's last seasonal wetlands as well as an active opponent of over development in Mill Valley. When I heard that the California Department of Food and Agriculture was planning to spray a potentially harmful compound on rural, suburban and urban areas including Marin, I quickly organizaed a townhall meeting in Mill Valley to alert my fellow citizens of the environmental and health risks associated with the plan. I then proceeded to become the Events Coordinator for Stop the Spray Marin and the special committee to plan the big Benefit Concert in June, 2008 to fund the cause and raise awarness about the spray. During this time I was also the Southern Deputy of the Marin Democratic Student Union and led two campaign trips for students this fall to help pro-environment candidate Charlie Brown in his 2008 congressional race. In the summer of 2008, I played a lead role as an environmental activist in PeaceChild an International play about global climate change that debuted in Rochester, New York and performed at the 2008 World Youth Congress in Quebec City, Canada. I was actively involved in Students for Barack Obama from January to November 2008 and helped plan Barack N' Roll, a huge awareness concert and rally two weeks before the election.
I have since founded the Bay Area Environmental Student Union (BAESU), and currently serve on the Steering Committee of Stop the Spray Marin and the Board of Directors for Next Generation, a 501 c3 environmental education nonprofit. I was president of the tam high earth club and I am an active member of Teens Turning Green and Teens for Healthy Schools and the 6th District Democrats Club. Last spring I was honored to receive the 2008 Marin Conservation League's Youth leadership Award.
