Jennie Kim

Hello readers and perusers of the Green News! My name is Jennie Kim, a junior at Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon. As a person who loves to write and has a few opinions of my own, being part of the Green News is pretty cool to me. I cannot stress how much I love to read TIME Magazine - I frequently write letters to the editor (none of which, to my saddness, have been published in the magazine yet) and excitedly wait every Friday afternoon by my mailbox for the week's issue to come in the mail. Through TIME Magazine, I learned a lot on the subject of environmental issues and my own opinions grew from it, which is why I am here today! In my spare time, I enjoy reading, listening to good music, cooking, meeting new people, participating actively in my school's Interact Club (of which I am vice-president), watching movies (WITH commentary!), watching television, playing tennis, and above all, bringing a little more joy to this earth by making others laugh. With the end of my long bio, I leave you this: The future of our planet is in OUR hands. If we all work together towards this same goal, I truly believe that we can make a difference. Cheesy, trite, and cliche, but true!

The Green
The Green is a monthly online environmental newspaper written by and for teens. The Green provides a place where youth can voice their thoughts, ideas, and beliefs about the environment and have them seen by other youth and adults in the Bay Area and across the nation.

What We’re Looking For
The Green welcomes all types of writing and artwork. Poetry, creative writing, editorials, book reviews, rants & raves, photos, drawings, comic strips, anything environmentally-related that you’d like to share. You don’t need to be an expert, you just need to be willing to share your knowledge and opinions.

Getting Started
You can get started by browsing through the current issue of The Green by using the links on this page. Then, if you feel ready, dive right in and start submitting your own work!!

The Green News Team
You can receive a small monetary reward at the end of the year by becoming part of The Green Team and agreeing to submit on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. Or, if you would rather just submit something every once-in-a-while, we welcome that as well. Either way, click on the Contact Us link to get in contact with us.

For Teachers
Teachers, take a look at the For Teachers link for ideas on how to incorporate The Green into your lesson plans. Use The Green to energize a writing or photography assignment, encourage students to publish their work, expose students to other youth writings, and to incorporate technology into your curriculum.
